Hi members and happy Thanksgiving. I have not posted for a while due to work and family obligations and home projects. I recently acquired a Beretta ASEL 20 ga made in 1960. I have tried to research this model and I have found some info, but not a lot. I also found and read an old thread here in the site. It is a beautifully made gun with excellent workmanship, straight stock, with double trigger, and 27.5” barrels. The stock was a bit short, so I added a leather covered pad and it fits perfect. The leather pad makes look elegant and it has not affected its balance. It still balances at the hinge. Whoever had it before me took a great care of it. It also came with 9 Briley thinwall chokes, but sadly not the original case. I shot it at sporting clays and I did very well with it. I was concerned that it might be hard kicking being only 5.8 lbs light, but it was not the case. I was also concerned about the double triggers, because although I prefer them on my SXS guns, I have not shot ann over under with them. They were perfect, came like a second nature, just like on my SxS guns. The only issue I had was 3 miss-fires I had in which the pin hit the primer but the shell did not go off. All of them were with the lower barrel. I was shooting Winchester 7/8 oz (the whit box). Not sure if the issue were the shell or the pin. The primer had a good dent. When I switched them to the top barrel, they fired. I What are your opinions on it? Does anyone shot or hunt with them? Thanks, BillK

Hello Bill, I have worked on quite a few and currently own a couple, one being a 20 bore, they are among the best production guns Beretta ever made…cherish it and don’t let just anyone open it up.
They have a trigger plate action and can be tricky to take apart…the hammers need to be cocked during disassembly or the trigger plate will not drop out, so if you accidentally trip one of the triggers while trying to dismantle it you will need to put the top tang screw back on and re-cock the action. After that make sure the lower firing pin has free movement…some times a burr or slight mushrooming at the rear of the pin will cause intermittent misfires, also inspect the tip of the firing pin, some times they are eroded/cratered and this will cause what you described.
Feel free to reach out if you need more help…always happy to discuss a good gun.
All best, CJ
The taste of poor quality lingers long after the cheap price is forgotten.........

I would try a different brand of shells especially those that have a brass head and not steel. These are great guns.

Thank you for the info CJ. I am not going to attempt to take it apart, but I would love to chat with you about guns and give me your opinions. Thank you. BillK
