For both elk and deer, accompanied by my 20-year old and a goodly number of reliable old friends. Don't know how many of these particular "adventures" remain for me as 1: Colorado has seriously monetized "big game hunting", 2: my back isn't what it used to be, and 3: productive hunting real-estate is getting ever-harder to access here. As a further complication, all my elk hunting partners are becoming ever-more geriatric and unavailable because of other commitments (familial usually). We either need to find new blood, better medication, or fatter wallets.

My guys are aging out and even with my eye issues, I'm not ready to pack it in. Found one good guy in his mid 30's and going next week with another who is about 50.
The world cries out for such: he is needed & needed badly- the man who can carry a message to Garcia

You have a twenty year old, and you are looking elsewhere? I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to find someone with a large ranch, but good luck getting access, and then asking them to haul it out.

I'm reliably informed that deer and elk both can be eaten, though, having been eye-to-eye with numerous white-tailed deer, I'm at a loss to imagine how they'd fit in my crock-pot. Damned antlers would keep the lid up. Regardless, I wish you fine weather, fine hunting, and an aromatic kitchen thereafter.
(Are they mule deer where you are?)

My 20 year olds are 43 and 41, I'll be 75 in 5 weeks and the hills haven't gotten much taller - they've become damn mountains. But, thankfully, I'm still able to get out fishing and hunting; I got word this morning that a fishing acquaintance died yesterday reminding me that fishing and hunting trips with friends become more precious with each passing year. Go while you still can and enjoy time with your friends as long as y'all are able before all that remains are memories.

Lloyd, Best wishes for a safe and enjoyable hunt! My 20 year old is 48 and I'm 76, so I get it. I'm going to continue hunting until I hit the ground like a well used shotshell! Karl
