I am visiting the :Museum of Perpetual Mess" here on the Coast of Maine, watching the Old Mess-Master,CC hand chequering the tops of the New Replacement Pec. Hammers for my Westley Richards.dt tells me the Chequering tool came from the Late Phil Deans"Box of 'Stuff" that Harry Lawrence dispensed between Brian Sorrell, Appr, to Harold Delay Stocker, and dt. This was a usual practice when one of the Old Craftsmen Died.. My Request is for Info. on "Proof-Loads" The DGJ artical was for 12b. I have a Cogswell & Harrison 16b db. that has had the Chambers Lengthened to 2.3/4", by the previous owner. The min.wall thickness is.035" on both BBls. Thanks, Louis Taxiarcus.

I have the 1906 Belgian proof loads. For 16ga the 3rd proof load was 9.8 grams of powder with 37.7 grams of shot. This was for a service loading of 4.9 grams of powder with 28.3 grams of shot. "The third test if on the barrels with the action attached. The barrels to be struck up and smoothed, and the insides clean. The action to be finished, or in the finished-file state."

Hope this helps,

Pete
