What is likely needing to be done when fitting a second set of barrels from one Syracuse Lefever to another. I have two G grades that appear to be nearly identical, even though some years separate them. The barrels go on both guns and come very, very close to closing. I realize I would not want to adjust the screw/ball hinge. If it was changed for one, it would not be right for the other. Anything else that comes to mind? Voices of experience would be most welcome, but any ideas will be appreciated.
TIA,

Nothing can be done to the reciever. There are smiths who can acomplish this magic as long as you have another forend to fit both the barrels and the reciever. david

Jim,

You might want to chat with Buck Hamlin. He would likely have some experience with this.

I had a new set of damascus barrels fitted to my EE grade Lefever. What was required was to file down the barrel lump untill it fit the frame and to build up and refit the forend loop to accept the existing forend. The ball screw needed to be adjusted also and that means that the old barrels don't fit. There was no other choice. It would have been nice if the old barrels still fit (and with a small adjustment they stiil do) along with the new ones but they are only 24" long and the reason that I found new 28" barrels for the gun. Brian Gurgin in NY state did the work for me but he has since retired.

Buck Hamlin is the person who I would strongly suggest you send your gun to. He can and will do it right and he is one of the need to know people if you want to shoot Lefevers. He can do it all and is very reasonable. JMHO.

First........where are all you people finding these extra barrels?
Next........actually spoke with Buck today about this very issue. He said most times they won't work. Lefever was the worst of all guns being hand fitted. LC Smith are the most easy to do. That was his exact words(give or take a few). But he said it can be done........on some. Also at times it may take him a number of hours to determine if he can or can't fit extra or new barrels.
