Would a 7,000psi load be usable in a 10ga with Damascus barrels? Barrels are in great condition.

As a start you should measure the wall thickness of both barrels from chamber to muzzle. Examine the barrels for finish, pits, cuts, corrosion, and other defects. Examine the condition of the ribs. Are they firmly attached? Is there any corrosion. Do the barrel ring like a bell? Have the barrels been proofed, and if so, what is proof rating?

These question are a good start. Unless you are willing to send the gun for proof, ultimately, you must make the decision to shoot.

It would seem so. Most any pressure under a max of 8000/9000 was the load for the guns originally.
Just make certain that the barrel walls are of a thickness that is acceptable and not just honed out to look good but are thin.
Best and Merry Christmas.

Agreed on all the above. And if they pass the above, would the said load be usable? By the way, do American guns get sent to proof?

Some American manufacturers tested there guns with proof loads. I do not know what they used as a proof load. There is not an American proof law, as there is in England.

I personally am ordering 10 gauge shells from RST. You may want to check them out. Take this advise and all advise on the internet with a grain of salt. Do as much research as you can.

Yes you can load up some super effective loads within the pressure range above for a 10ga. The older 10ga loads were not like the 10ga magnum however. Most were 1 1/4 or possibly 1 3/8 oz loads. I was very surprised at how well even a 1 oz load in a 10ga works.

Check out Sherman Bells article on ten gauge guns in the spring 2001 D.G.J.

7000psi is a safe load- I use 1oz loads in my 10's and as said, they work great. Paul
