What a gun. Like my little E 16, it's been hunting but all there.

Could the engraving be by Loy? The dogs sure look like it. Wonderful!

Thanks for the replies. I was surprised that it feels so "lively", something like a high quality English game gun. No wonder it has been hunted so much! The dog engraving is substantially shallower than the rest of the engraving. The scroll does remind me of the engraving on the early graded Ithaca Flues. Here is a link to my photobucket site if you want to see some larger pictures: http://s98.photobucket.com/albums/l274/AmarilloMike/Lefever%20EE%2016/Thanks again, Mike

Very interesting observation 'Weston'. Yet, the Glahns were in full force at the time. It sure is apparent that many companies were willing to send/ship out guns for 'higher-grade' engraving. Lefever's seem to have lead to much of the confusion. And there is no doubt that Loy did plenty of engraving for other companies... after his move... as well as other engravers. Perhaps the world was not as 'small', at the time, as we think it was. Then we start to consider apprentices.....

Mike, if you don't have one yet, invest in a 7" long , used ultrasonic cleaner. They would do wonders for your receiver and other small parts.

I use the granular Spic and Span. Then wash the parts off with the hotest water from the tap. Blow off with compressed air and the spray with WD40 and let dry on a paper towel. Then wipe off again before reassembly. It is important not to let the metal parts in the ultrasonic rub on the walls or touch on other metal parts. I have devised a couple of baskets , made of plastic from raspberry sales at the grocery. Then separate parts with a piece of wood shingle or similar. It will clean up what days or weeks of solvent could not do.

Mike the cleaner you listed is perfect. The 9 inch long one will let you put a Lefever receiver in it. Lefevers are about the longest of any guns-----
