What the story on the V. Bernardelli Roma 8s? Is this a sideplated boxlock?
What's a 28g, 28" ejectors, straight grip, all original, 90% + overall, worth? This one was imported by Quality Arms.
I can find a listing for 12gs in the Blue Book, but not for 28gs.
Thanks
OWD

Roma should be a side plated boxlock. Haven't seen a Roma 8 before.
I think all the V Bernardelli sidelocks are 12 gauge.

Yep..sideplated BL , prolly E as well I remembering seeing a Roma 6 when first bitten by our disease..& remembering it being rather pretty....two steps up to a # 8 should look lovely...& a good lasting gun from what I've heard of the Vincenzo(sp?) Bernardellis Hope its got long bbls & nice timber OOps I see it's 28" bbls..nice!! God nows about the price..if nicely engraved , good wood & finish nfit..stock spec's for me etc........wild guess.. around 3 Grand? perhaps 4..i'd have to see it..even then it would be only my personal value to me as a shooter good luck Franc

Sure this isn't a Roma 3 (3 misread as 8)? I've ever heard of a Roma 8, let alone seen one. I have several Romas and they are very reliable guns, with good ejectors and hinged front trigger (not an issue with a 28, I'm sure). Slightly heavy for guage, in my experience. I bought my Roma 3, (lightly used) for $650 about ten years ago (a 20, so less in demand than a 28). They are much more now. My Roma 4 16 cost about $500 (well used, but not abused) in Italy, plus the cost of importing (about $300 if I recall)about six years ago. Wood on both is plain but handsome.
I'd buy another if I found one at a bargain price. But I'd say that about any quality double....
I uwsed to gripe (a little) about the close set double triggers of my Roma 3 when hunting with gloves in New York state in the cold grouse season. Not a problem in CA...

OWD,
Well, we see from the Blue Book that the Roma 8 in 12 gauge had a MSR of $4,740.00, but a 100% condition gun is worth $1000.00 less at $3,700.00
We also see that the Blue Book makes no mention of a premium being placed on the sub gauges. Even though that seems unlikely, we can either take it at face value and apply the 12 gauge value or apply the WAG principle and give the 28 gauge at least a 50% premium.
So, if we did that it would make a 28 gauge MSR at $7,110.00
Would a 100% condition 28 gauge Roma 8 with the same $1000.00 reduction be worth a bit over $6000.00???
I haven't a clue.
All I guess that I do know is that a Roma 8 in 28 gauge has got to be awfully rare.
Oh, and yes it is a sideplated boxlock. The only sidelock V. Bernardelli is the Holland model which was supposedly made in 12 gauge only.

The Romas were pretty common, up to 6. 7's, 8's, 9's are in the Blue Book, but I've never seen one. Chadick recently had a Roma 6 28ga, cased, close to 100%, for a little under $3K. I thought that a darned good price. Someone else did too, because when I called it had been sold. The Blue Book indicates about a 50% premium for a Roma 8 over a Roma 6. That'd put you at $4500 or so. In excellent condition, I'd probably be interested at something under $4K.

Here are some pics of it: What do you guys think? I'm told it has 28"bbls and ejectors. Looks all original and very high condition to me. Thanks OWD

OWD,
Sure looks nice to me.
I'm not trying to be a smartass, but they did such a nice job with this gun, its a shame that it isn't a true sidelock.
I'd still be proud to own it though!
