Yes, it does. I think we've all observed, from comments about gunsmiths on this and other forums, that sometimes things go wrong--even if you choose your craftsman very carefully and even if they have almost 100% positive recommendations from satisfied customers. (I'm not sure I've ever seen any gunsmith with a 100% perfect record when someone posts here and says "What do you think of . . . . ?") It's almost like you want to have good photographic evidence of the gun before you send it off to have it worked on. Which, of course, would be pretty hard when it comes to the bores.

One possible lesson from this is to always have a gun returned to you for inspection and to document the condition prior to sending it off to the next specialist for them to do their part.

I would also require a written aknowledgment of the work I wanted performed. It is too easy for a lack of communication to do real harm.

Damn shame too..

Bob, AS I've said before I feel your pain!

Larry,
I agree with you that things happen, and no gunsmith has a perfect track record nor could they. I've been a tradesman all my life in mechanical repair and some machining. Things go wrong all the time, it's in the nature of doing repair work.

The big difference is this when it happens in other industries the tradesman or the company has to suck-it up and make it right. If you take your car into a dealership for repair, and then afterward the repair fail's the mechanic has a come-back that he has to eat and repair it at no cost to you.

Why should double gunsmiths be any different! If the work they did has caused a failure or damage they should stand-up and try to make it right. Not just shrug their shoulders and say pay the full amount and by the way your gun is ruined.

Or in this case you have just spent thousands of dollars, several years, and now the smith tells you I've found a problem that more than likely was caused by us or someone we contracted with and will not give some form of compensation!
