Not to pound this hamburger any flatter but, GregSy wrote: "An no, you're wrong about the issue of a longer cone must have a more gradual taper. I could easily machine a 4" forcing cone or a 6" forcing cone with a less gradual taper than Browning's 2" cone. You're assuming all cones have to be machined with a linear taper when they don't. "
Geometrically, if it isn't a linear taper it isn't a forcing "cone", it's a forcing "something", but not a cone. J Legg wins.

Since we're making a tortilla out of this, I'd like to join in...to further elaborate on Rocketman's post on small engines and fuel economy: The new GMC trucks I'm looking at show the 4.8 engine as getting less mileage than the 5.3 litre engine.

Fuel economy and fuel availability are very complex issues. The one simple thing I know that you can do is keep your tires properly inflated (check/adjust minimum of monthly and before any long or high speed trips or heavyly loaded use). Underinflated tires cost you money for fuel! Just read that clearing new crop land in the Amazon to make up for grain going to biofuel is now accounting for near 25% of the global warming. Unintended consiquences!!

Hello Jim, You are so right. Never argue with an idiot. You can't win and people will not be able to tell which is which, after a while. Will try to keep it present at all times. Best, JC

Wasn't all that difficult in this case, JC.

You and Chuck are right, Rocketman. The reason I mentioned my statement was because back in my horse/camping/trailer pulling days, my 350 Chevy truck would get better gas mileage than the people I was camping with who drove 6 cylinder trucks. One guy I traveled with had a 6 cylinder T-Bird pulling a horse trailer and got about the worst mileage of the whole bunch. But a lot of things do go into mileage but normally Greg would be right. But just having a smaller engine doesn't always mean better gas mileage.
