I load low-pressure 1 oz. reloads at about 5,000 psi for my Damascus and twist-barreled American classic SxS's, using IMR 7625. Seems to work well, and 1,150 fps breaks clays just fine.

The 1890's L. C. Smith (twist)is choked Full and Fuller. I'm thinking of creating a spreader loading, to shoot the closer Sporting Clay shots, using POLYWAD SPRED-R plastic post inserts.

Anyone have any idea or data to indicate how much this would increase pressure over the nominal 5,000 psi in the IMR loading manual? Has anyone tried this?

Any better solutions?

THANKS

I seem to remember reading that they increase pressure somewhat but if you're in the 5000 psi range without them, I wouldn't worry.

I prefer to use the bpi x-treme spreader insert. I think they work better. They work really good if you take the time and trim the petals of the shot cup down a tad...like cut em in half. Are you loading 800x to get 5000 psi? Thats what I've been loading for the past couple years now and it works great for vintage guns!
