It's a 10 ga. And the Barrels are 28". The bores are bright with wht looks like some minor pitting.

The inlaid piece on the foreend is nicely doweled in place. There is quite a bit of engraving though it isn't as sharp as the engraving on my Ithaca.

About the only thing I see wrong is the left firing pin drops when the action is closed. There is a rubber butt pad glued on over the plastic one also. I kind of doubt David Kirkwood was putting on recoil pads 125 years ago.

Let me add my thanks to Michael's---this is quite similar to one that Michael and I know well (which has a slightly earlier serial number and without any of the normal Kirkwood patent dates), but your Kirkwood is more richly engraved. I particularly enjoy the fences and their reflection of the muzzle-loading era.
