I have looked at a few guns recently that I suspect may have been hot dip blued.
The flats were bright but the blue just did not look quite right.
What are the more subtle things to look for to tell if they have been hot blued, and would this definitely count you out from purchasing a gun assuming no sign of corrosion?

Cheers,

Greg,
The fact that a sxs had been hot salt blued would not, in itself, be cause for me to pass on a gun. It would be simply another deduction in it's condition/value to me because of the requirement to re-lay ribs and reblue.

But, more to your point, I'd look for rounding of the edges, thin/irregular wallthickness, and waviness, since if the bozo took the shortcut of hot blue, he likely took the shortcut of machine polishing the barrels as well.

Sometimes its hard to tell a hot blue from the fast rust blue [express blue]....This is when a few streak marks from a not so perfect express blue come in handy.....
