I have a 16 ga. Sterlingworth. The safety was not working properly so I took it to a local gunsmith. Now the safety works but the lever doesn't stay to the right when the action is opened. Is the spring for the trip under the floor plate screw? Or do I have to take the whole action apart?

Yes, the spring is under the floorplate screw. Is the trip in the hole? If so just push on it to see if it was installed right. Then find a spring that fits in the trip.

Thanks!
Yes the trip is there. I can turn the action upside down, move the lever and the trip will block it. I'm sure he left the spring out. I just didn't want to start turning screws till I knew if I was on the right track.
