Treblig1958, agree on those semi autos, lots of people use them here at the trap ranges and if you are to the right of them they are a real pain, I wish they were banned from trap, it is not like you can't get a reasonable O/U or S/S for a similar price, best,, Mike

"Open or out" is a cardinal rule on the range. Action type makes no difference, although it's certainly easier to tell at a glance whether a double is safe.

Hi Mike-never did get a "Spanish Best" or even a 2nd. Best-how did you fare at the auction in London?? Several area clubs require a pump or semi-auto to have a bright orange safety plug inserted in the opened action until the shooter is on the stand-a local firm came up with the idea, they make the "dummy" bright orange molded plastic shells for the LE community weapons training classes- I think Bownell's sells them, in their LE and Military catalog. I have been shot twice, both times by friends who were experienced hunters. Both times, not pleasant. We as hunters and shooters get too comfortable with guns and shooting, because of this, things happen that should not. It has made both of us much more careful about hunting.

It may have been an accidental discharge but allowing the muzzle to be pointed in an unsafe direction was pure carelessness. The same event, with the muzzle pointed safely, as it should always be, would have been nothing more than embarrassment. DON'T let your friends, strangers or squadmates get away with unsafe gun handling. We're all members of the "SAfety Committee".

Hard to know whether or not you should boast about that (unless your real name is Cheney!)
In the late 1800's in Ireland there was a very unpopular landlord, renowned for evictions, maltreatment of tennants, etc., who was shot at - and missed - so many times that he was known as "The Woodcock."
Stay safe,
K.

I don't see any difference between an auto or a pump as far as safety goes. I have seen just as many or more guys fool with a pump gun because of a jam as I have an auto. If a gun is pointed in a safe direction, no one will be hurt. One thing I have noticed in skeet that we should all be aware of is on the last post. Shooters should be told that you should not shoot the gun past the center post for safety purposes. I don't know how you guys do it at your range, but at mine they are warned about swinging the gun over their head on the last post and shooting it in the opposite direction. Wow!! That could be dangerous. Be careful guys. We don't need anyone on here getting shot. And you are just as responsible to warn someone for being negligent as you are to act safely yourselves.

The simple truth is that every year a certain number of people must get shot due to the law of averages. No matter how safe we are, if you have thousands upon thousands of events (i.e. handling guns) there will be some which result in accidents.

Just like every year some people get cut shaving, get burned by hair curlers, or cut with a kitchen knife.

In my view there is no such thing as an injury resulting from an "accidental discharge".
The discharge may have been unintentional, but the injury resulted from careless negligence at the minimum.
Observing the basics of safe gun handling will prevent 100% of accidental injuries.

that is terrible! I was assuming that "son" meant a minor - not a 23 year old man.

You always have to be more than careful!
