I believe that both numbers are Niedner barrel numbers.

No. 193 would have one of the first barrels made in 1922.
No. 422 would have been made in the middle of 1924.

There are many Niedner numbers with one or more of the numbers turned sideways or even upside down. Who ever did the stamping of these obviously had a problem with them.

1922 was the first year savage offered the .410 barrel, cost was $10.

Always wondered whether Adolph actually built those combination and double guns he sold, or had them made in Belgium or Germany and just put his name on them, or, perhaps, imported the metalwork, including the engraving, and stocked and finished them here.

Each one of Adolph's guns has to be evaluated on it's own, I think the one he made for Whelen was a barreled action, in the white, that he imported from Germany and stocked and finished. Somewhere along the line Whelen had Adolph restock it. Still looking for the pictures.
