Sorting out real value(collector interest), vs value(just as good as).
Both middle grade guns, both same condition - where's the top dollar going, Parker or Westley Richards?

I'd go Parker on sentiment alone.

I have several nice Parkers that I like very much, D the highest grade, most in sixteen gauge.

I would really like to have a high grade Westley Richard's droplock twelve with enough wear I don't mind taking it out hunting.

Best,

Mike

I not quite sure what you mean. There are more niche areas to collect into with a Westley. Do you mean which will hold their value or will be more easily disposed of or rise in value? What is the difference between a midgrade Parker and a high grade Parker; more engraving and fewer numbers made? A lot of collector interest in Parkers. What do you consider a mid grade Westley?

Some say gold has real value over the dollar over the long haul - perhaps the same can be said with our guns. In today's world, the just as good as gun might not cut it - it has to be an investment(not investment grade mind you), but a hard asset of known worth.

MHO----No marque has a lasting investment value. Guns, in the general order of things, have very low, if any, investment potential. The fact that 99.9999% cannot be sold immediately is a testament to that.

The gun market, but for the black guns and hand guns, are greatly dependent on the general economy to rise in price. If spendable income is hard to come by (limited or not there), buying guns is way low on most people's minds. Self defense is the possible exception.

Best,
John

I tend to agree with what's stated above. A collapse in the dollar would result in a collapse in the economy and extreme social unrest would probably ensue. IMO; In that case the weapons that would have the most value would be the best defensive ones available. This to me means assault type rifles and tactical shotguns and pistols.
