Great job Steve. Is Larry scheduled to engrave this project?

Very Nice Steve, does that have a long LOP or is it just the trim action that makes it look that way? Do many makers today use a "Touchmark"?

Thanks Dennis, Michael! Engraver is yet to be determined. I would be pleased for Larry Peters to do it but it's up to the client. The LOP is 14 5/16" about normal for most of the rifles I build. Surprisingly few modern custom rifle makers use a hallmark, but a lot of the muzzleloading guys do. The sophisticated bolt guys seem to be using acid etch with computer generated templates, very nice and infinatly variable for caliber. I usually have the caliber hand engraved. Another pic showing some of the many hours of action reshaping and carved-bevel checkering borders.

Very nice work, Steven. I really like your metal contouring and the woodwork and line is just superb. Hope the engraving does'nt detract. In my opinion, too many folks skimp on that final touch and don't do a rifle like this justice. If it were mine, I'd opt for at least 75% coverage by one of our best- and there are getting to be some really fine engravers around nowadays.
Barry Hands displayed a very nice Fisher-stocked specimen at the Guild Show last. There were bighorn sheep in a mountain setting played-out along the sides of the quarter rib. Sounds over-the-top, but it was very tasteful as an exhibition piece.
Best,
C.

Thanks guys! Clair, I believe Barry's rifle won the top engraving award? Hope this one is scroll engraved, but the client is having trouble making up his mind.
Gary, thanks for the comments on the lever, I spent quite a it of time designing, chopping, filing, contouring and heat bending it, then reshaped the trigger to complement! Best, Steve

Steve, that rifle is just lovely! The lines classic and timeless IMO. Fifty years from now someone will pick that rifle up and just say WOW!

Just a great single shot. A scroll or Acanthus would compliment your work nicely IMHO.

Beautiful gun but the big, modern Leupold scope takes away from the classic lines. How about a nice little Leupold Alaskan? They're trim, all steel, with classic looks but modern (well, only 20 years old, anyway) optics.
