Saw one recently. Krupp barrels, Belgian proofs (pre-1924). Pretty basic gun, but looked to be good quality. Only reference I could find is in Carder--no more info than I posted above.

I think I've seen Reads from as early as the 1870s and as late as maybe the 1920s. I've seen a couple of later boxlocks that had, if I recall, Belgian proof marks. They were fairly plain but high-quality guns. TT

From the IGC:
Established in 1826 and in about 1852 became Wm Read & Sons. The firm bought guns from W & C Scott & Son in the UK from 1870 and from Webley & Scott Ltd 1900-1922.

Cabelas had a Wm. Read for sale a while back. They had it listed for a long time, but it appeared to be a very nicely done boxlock with 2.5" chambers. It was in great shape.

Wm;Read Sons, 13 Faneuil Hall Square, Boston.
Agents for genuine W.& C.Scott & Sons,Breech Loaders.
Furnished by us to BOGARDOUS[who has shot one over 5,000 times]
$50 upward
Now on hand some damaged and second hand ones very low. some of the highest grade.
Send for circular.

The one I saw recently was simply marked William Read; Krupp barrels with Belgian proofmarks.
