Charls in South Africa, what is the provenance of your 34" and 36" Greener? For whom was such a gun made? U.S. market? Can we see some pictures of that great pigeon gun?

Frederick Beesley 12 SLE from 1898 (my fathers gun, bought in 1975)
Army & Navy 12 SLE from 1935
Henry Clarke & Sons, Leicester 12 BLE from around 1930 (my grandfathers gun, bought new)
(Not English: AYA .410 BLE Hammer single barrel, my first shotgun)

And on the wish list: Pair John Wilkes 20 SLE, since that is my family name too!

Tim

According to David Dryhurst, this gun was ordered by a Mr Palmer on the 30.9.1889. It is a treble wedgefast action, 34'barrels (M & F)and extra 36' barrels (both open cyl) It was built by amongst their best workers and of very high quality. The gun belonged to a farmer in the Howick, Natal districk in the late 1890's and just before the Boer/Brit War broke out, the gun was confiscated by the then magistrate, a mr Gedue. He liked what he saw and kept the gun for himself. I bought the gun off his great grandson unseen. I actually was told about the guncase, so I bought the case (for R750-00 or $100-00) and got the gun with the case. I have since 'restored' (i.e. cleaned up) the gun and it is quite special. I do have pictures but unfortunately don't know how to post.
Regards,
Charls

They really did make some nice guns.

12 ga. EM Rielly Jones underlever hammer damascus
Westley Richards 20 ga. Jones under lever hammer.
Webley and Scott 12 Model 700
William Palmer Jones 12 gauge Live bird gun (Hazards Club)
BSA 32" 3"mag duck destroyer.

I once bought a William Powell 12 at a gun show for $200. Nice gun too. I gave it to my best friend for Christmas and the rascal never shoots it. Should have kept it.

Bob: I have revised my earlier post in agreement with you that "Quality and not quantity is what really counts" BTW, you didn't mention, what's in your safe?

Best Regards, George

-16 bore E. Chamberlain damascus BLNE: inlaid as #2 of a pair (got the other?)
-12 bore Geo. Bate damascus BLE
-12 bore G.W. Bales, Ipswich damascus hammer gun

Gone the way of the dinosaur....

-T. Wild .410 hammergun (dammit!!)
-T. Wild 12 Bore hammer gun
-Watson & Hancock 12 bore hammer gun
-I. Hollis 12 bore hammer gun
-R. Robinson 12 bore BLNE

I'm still looking for that elusive 20 bore, out of proof, off the face british gun for under $500. Mike H. had it about a year ago, but someone beat me to it!!!

There should be a pair of Hollands over and unders in 16 bore, an old 416 Rigby and a good old english double rifle that has seen several generations of use. All should be set up for left handed use.

But just checked the cabinet and there is sadly
just my W J Jeffery 410 side by side Boxlock

There was a 410 Single Barrel "English Made" (ie no makers name) on a Ward Patent action - this is now with my nephews where it resides alongside a Stensby boxlock ejector.

I am keeping my eyes open for a nice 16 bore boxlock or even sidelock ejector for my wife to use to replace her 20 bore Rizzini.

And I want a 12 Bore Magnum side by side duck / goose gun - fed up with a Benelli

I do also have a very nice 12 bore AyA Coral over and under, that sits alongside a Ferlach built 16 bore / 7x65R combination gun and a Heym SR20 bolt action rifle in 243.
