Hi all, I think this subject was brought up awhile ago, but for the heck of it lets do it again, perhaps a fresh look.

So, by what criteria do you define "Entry Level" for SxS's?

Or for that matter, any level; Mid grade, High Grade or Best Gun?

Curious to see that you come up with.

Thanks and all the best!

Greg

I have a broth-in-law that uses an 1100 every time he ENTERS the woods. Would this be considered an entry level gun smile? Says he has no need for another gun.

My first SxS was a Fox Model B when I was about 13. Belonged to a friend's grandfather. Next was a 12g Sterlingworth.

Those were my "gateway" guns.

After that, I experimented - a Parker here, a Lefever, a Belgian gun.

Now I'm a full blown addict.

From middle-European perspective, I would propose a used Simson for say 200 euros.
With kind regards.

Entry level, for most of us, would be something very basic: Stevens 311, Uggie 30, or maybe an Ithaca SKB 100 if someone's looking for a ST gun.

Best gun definition is likely to start a cat fight.

Entry level to me is set by the manufacturer. They set their product to bands within the market place.
The features that seem to be consistent in the entry level doublegun world are:
Extractors
Heavy barrels
Semi-pistol grip stock w/ hard buttplate
Straight grained wood, though this is a more recent concern between bands.
Little adornment
Internally, limited polishing of parts.

Out there doing it best I can.

One I can afford. My most expensive gun is a CZ, won it at an RGS banquet. Some day soon I'll stop drooling and step a little higher.

Perhaps the differences between languages makes me wrong, but I think "entry level" is related with each brand, so there is an "entry level" Holland & Holland as there are also an entry level AyA, Stevens, etc.
Each brand have an entry level shotgun: the cheapest, least engraved, more utilitarian gun.
Am I wrong?

Best,
