This is a later example I have of a mid-grade model 12 SLE circa 1890.I think the use of the crystal indicator was discontinued around 1892.This is a back-action lock in a bar-shaped lockplate.
Also has Scotts Lever-Grip top bite and patent gas vents on the breech face.Interesting how the various Scott actions evolved over a period of some 25 years.

Crystal indicators are one of the most useless stuff on guns I ever saw. And all that stuff on English best guns such as golden strip or arrow on hammer axle made just for fun.
Are you going to inspect your gun to figure out its cocked or uncocked during hunting, are you stupid or something?

I would guess you would have to have lived during the time period to really understand some of the things.

Complications were the sign of quality from about 1850 forward to maybe 1910. See pocket watches with up to 30 complications.
The same customers, the same demands, just a different forum.
It was the age of mechanization and colonial wealth.

Just finished working with the left side. Some guns, like this one, are hard for me to take good pictures of.

The forend release shown on Michael's 3rd photo is on my Scott too. I had never seen one before. Anyone know it's origins, or what it is properly called?

Hammergun:
The release shown was only used on the A quality Scotts. Premier, Excellencia, etc. It is a W. Scott patent. My Premier has one. It is unusual, but not my favourite since its operation is counter-intuitive and a bit dicey for the ham-handed. This scribe included. However, the look is very slick and sophisticated.

Mr. Petrov-

Beautiful gun! Early Premiers are my favorites.

Thanks for the pics.

Thanks Kensal for the info. I like it because it's unusual.
