I have a J P Sauer 20 that I am having issues with. The firing pins do not retract after shooting evidently. It would not break open after the shot and I only noticed this when I saw that the hole where the firing pins come through the breach are getting some distortion in their shape. Is it a fairly simple job to dismantle the action on these shotguns to see if it is gummed up and just in need of a good cleaning and lubrication?

Distortion around the firing pins holes? I suspect this gun is going to require more than just a cleaning. I'd take it to an experienced double smith if it were mine.

Get to someone who knows them. If it is pre war ask to see inside it when the smith has it apart. Mine looks like a watch, hifhly finished watch.

This fine piece of German craftsmanship originally had sling swivels on it. At some point in time they were removed. I would like to replace them with something that would be authentically correct. Can anyone give me some guidance on this and where these parts might be purchased?

Hello MJBilbo,
Need more data and pictures.
For the sling swivels, what is left on the barrels? Is there just a hole left in the butt stock?

As for the firing pins sticking, I would first try good quality Winchester AA or Remington Premeir ammo and see if they still stick.

If they do, then a good cleaning is first in order.
Disassembly for cleaning is not difficult, but I have no way of knowing your mechanical skills.

After that, is the problem still persists, more invasive measures can be taken.

Enjoy the day
Mike

Have tried AA loads in it along with other premium ammunition types. Problem seems persistent regardless of what goes down the barrel.
Currently have it in the hands of a good person that knows this type of shotgun quite well.

What is left of the swivel is several screws on the bottom of the barrel rib and a poor excuse of a wood plug filler in the stock
