This is great stuff guys, thanks JC and AmarilloMike, I can spend a few hours looking at the pages you linked. But alas, it's midnight here and Santa is coming...have to go put presents under the tree.

Whew boy, I've just gotta admit it; most, if not all, modern engraving leaves me cold. all the fancy swirls with their black backgrounds, all the "gorgeous" bulino game scenes.... and I'm talking about stuff you'll find on new Westley Richards, Holland & Holland, etc., really higher echelon (and dinero) stuff. Does this make me a bad person?

I'm thinking about a Wheat Chaff border on the sideplates, like this game scenes in the center, but need something between the game scene and the hinge pin Rosette. Also, what to put on the underside and trigger guard. I am having a 5 pointed Texas Star engraved on the opening lever, like this: 'cause I think it's cool and not the standard checker pattern for an open lever. It will be on both sides of the thumb area.

Scotty you are very welcome. Mark that is a great thread you linked to. Very nice gun and the partridge and pheasant are nearly identical between yours and mine. Mine is also a twenty gauge. Quite a bit of detailed information in it about our guns. I bought mine from Kirby Hoyt last week. He is having a leather pad put on it for me. I haven't had it in my hands yet. Here is a link to the gun: http://www.vintagedoubles.com/inventory.php?sort=4&process=fullview&gunID=1541If you are using the Internet Explorer browser zoom up to 200% or 300%. For some reason Kirby's pictures have enough pixels in them to enlarge. I like the scalloped back on yours. I keep looking at the screw on the floorplate with the off-center slot cut in it (my gun). Wonder if the "screwer" had had a few pints too many at lunch and then cut the slot that afternoon. I like both but on old Birmingham guns the Bulino would certainly be out of place! Best, Mike
