Same gun as my recent post (Peiper Bayard 12 gauge SXS)with bores that measure .718/.721 and tight chokes with long tapers and parallel sections. Patterns with No. 7 1/2 shot are very small. Any recommendations to open the patterns a bit with or without bore/choke work?

Stand farther back from the patterning board. Is Prejeans your favorite restaurant?

Jim, Prejean's is a good place but not my favorite by a long shot. If you are implying that the pattern board is not the way to base all decisions about guns/chokes/loads for hunting, I would go along with that. My favorite example of taking the shot at proper range is the dove field, where some shooters take incoming birds at the closest range possible, the shot swarm is the size of a dinner plate, and either miss the bird clean or destroy it. I guess Subgauge's recommendation would be the best route for close range shooting.

I think the folks here, who have used them a lot, figure spreader loads can open up the pattern somewhere around the equivalent of one choke designation. They won't make a skeet gun out of Full/full. If the gun is not in collector condition and you plan to keep it for a reasonable length of time, I'd open them up to suit most of your shooting. Others will consider that a sacrilege. Suffering with a gun that doesn't suit your needs is not for me. Mike Orlen can do this for a very reasonable price.

RC; Musta been about 15 yrs ago now I guess, I spent about a week in a camper on the outskirts of Lafayette. Sure did enjoy all that gator & crawdad A-2-Fay (forget how to spell it). Took a boat tour of the Atchafalaya Swamp & went down to Avery Island & watched them make a litle of my favorite hot sauce, Tabasco. Sure had a great time.

Aw Yeah, that's it Pete. Done making me hungry. My wife cooks up a pretty good dish of it along, but she's got more receipe books than I have gun books, didn't know where to start looking up the spelling. I kid her all the time about her receipes as she never follows one exactly more than one time. After that she substitutes to suit herself, usually an improvment. In going on 47 yrs of marriage I have never complained about her cooking.
