If anyone thought I was condemning pigeon shooting I wasn't. I think it is a fine sport.

Best,

Mike

Joe Wood made some good points. The most pertinent point is that pigeon shoots are a humane alternative to poisoning. It has to be mentioned that pigeon trappers who sell to pigeon shoots trap in the most congested of pigeon populations where the victims of those populations are anxious to eliminate them. Their next step would probably be an inhumane solution.

In rural areas around here the filthy things like to roost in barn lofts and crap in the hay. I used to take a couple of kids with flashlights and we would take turns shining them at night in the rafters. Gun of choice at the time was a pump up .22 cal. Benjamin air rifle for the kids. Believe it or not there was an old couple that would take all the pigeons we shot and yep they ate the disgusting things.

I've killed a truckload with a .22 rifle, but never looked at it as sport. It would be
kinda like shooting rats for sport. Which, come to think of it is a pretty good sport and helpful as well.

There's something noble about grouse and quail, plus you can eat them! Doves, great grilled with bacon. Nothing is noble about a pigeon. I wouldn't eat a pigeon at gunpoint.

It may indeed be illegal in Watkinsville, don't know, but it is not illegal in all of Georgia. There are legal box bird shoots held in several areas of Georgia, and South Carolina for that matter.

There was a helicopter flying around over a pigeon shoot near here a couple years ago with a cameraman filming out the side of it. One phone call from the owner of the property got that helicopter grounded with a threat to the pilot that if he ever again harassed a legal group of pigeon shooters he would lose his license.

Chef Gordon Ramsey f***ing disagrees with you on that point! As he says, the best way to control pests is to eat them.

Watch him kill em, cook em, and eat em. (Children cover your ears)
