Any recommendations for shop opening bores in Canada?
Mike Orlen has done work for me but U.S. regulations now make it all but impossible.
Canadian customs doesn't care what I ship south---barrels or gun as long as it is registered---but Washington red tape has discouraged gunsmiths from doing business in Canada.

King, Precision Arms and Gunsmithing @ King City Ontario does good work. Installed Briley thin chokes in my ASEL which work I am satisfied with. They tend to be slow however. Les Paul in Oshawa is excellent, Nick Mackinson has a good reputation and quick service. I use a gunsmith here in Alberta for opening chokes only. He does it from the chamber end - which I believe is the correct approach. There are lots of others but I have personal experience with the above and can vouch for each.

Hello King, Steve Milton of Precision Arms, King City (how appropriate is that) Ontario, as mentioned by Slate, would be a good bet, much quicker than the others mentioned. http://www.precisionarms.ca/WebPages/SplashPage.htm

Mark,
Steve Milton! One of the best gunners I ever saw at Springer Spaniel field trials. That guy could dring a bottle of scotch and still get up the next day and run 30 or 40 pheasants in a row. I saw some really nice choke and barrel work by his company as well.

I would recommend Nick Mackinson for barrel work.Nick made barrels and sleeved thosands of guns in his Birmingham works prior to arriving Canada.Nick has an excellent machineshop which has barrel boring and honing capability.Nick has sleeved guns and honed barrels for me over the past twenty years. I have always been very satisfied with the results.Nick is located in Komoka,Ontario and can be reached at 519-471-5462.

King, several years ago, Steve Milton installed his own brand of choke tubes in a 10-bore Zabala that I had shortened from 32" to 26". You can't even tell that there are tubes in the barrels because they are not notched like the majority of others. Rather, the choke wrench is a tapered cylinder, like a Morse taper, and relies on friction to remove/install the tubes. They throw great patterns and I have had no problems whatsoever with them. Les Paul, who lives only about a mile from my home, also does excellent work, but expect to wait 3 to 4 times the time quoted to complete the job!
