I was commissioned recently to paint a pointer on a Citori stock, and I thought I would share it with you all. I have wanted to try this for a while, but my biggest concern was how to keep it somewhat subtle. Pretty difficult to put a white dog on a dark stock and keep it subtle, but a thin sepia glaze over the top did tone it down some. Of course, the possibilities are limitless, and all kinds of things that might look neat on a gun come to mind. Anyway, thanks for letting me share.

Very nice work indeed. The affect is dramatic and I'm sure holds a very personal meaning to the owner.

Mark: that is a really nice English Pointer with a very nice straight up tail. I'm a huge pointer fan and have several. I have two puppies of Elhew Sinbad, littermates, Queen and Reagan(Reagan I named for my HERO). I really hope we have some quail to hunt this year. I like your painting on your Citori....it is so unique. I'm glad you did it on a Citori and not a Purdey, but I can appreciate you zest and passion for English Pointer because I share it too. I really like E Setters too! Take care, Buzz

Thank you. I agree it might not look right on a high end classic, but for a modern hunting gun like this, it's a neat look. I was thinking a smallish vignetted oval with a hunting scene might be interesting to try also.

Mark, again I am awed by your artistic talent. And again, I have to say that seeing it on a gunstock is simply not to my personal taste. Yes, I feel the same way about cuckoo clock wood carving on a gun stock.

On the other hand I'm a big fan of your grain painting; in that case you are just helping nature out a bit for her failure to make all walnut blanks equally beautiful. One day I hope to find the right plain stocked gun to employ your talents on...Geo

Mark,if someone told me about a painted stock I'd hate the idea. However, seeing your finished product on a modern O/U I find it to be beautifully executed and a real enhancement to the Browning. Your skill is amazing! Were you able to put on some protection to protect it from future wear?
