I will say this: the flame wars we've seen the last couple weeks have been entertaining.

And actually I have learned something about (for one) case hardening, watching the various versions of the truth battle it out. And I've learned something about how to discern whether, for example, that Sterlingworth has its original case colors or not. This is useful information, should my buying budget ever refill itself.

Those who don't like the flame wars can check out or ignore them, but the way they have been going are reminiscent of my classes in law school, where the debates were strong and the opinions stronger, but the structure of the forum kept people from each others' throats.

Just remember: there is no such thing as a provably false opinion.

Reading all this garbage is about as bad as any city's Craigs List "Rants & Raves" section.

Reviewing some other boards, I noticed that they're kind of boring, everyone saying this or that is a beautiful example of that or this, when in actuality it isnt. When we argue we all learn. We all agree that Ed destroys the looks of classic American made doubles but if you look on Gunbroker he has attained and kept the highest level of customer approval. Granted, his doubles with the torch jobs look horrendous, but he is a businessman that can be trusted and trusted he is by his customers and that is a good thing...yes...no?

I do remember Ol Lightning Ted!! For a time there I thought that OL had evolved into Amarillo Mike, but I am now assuming that this is not the case. I believe that OL WAS from Amarillo wasn't he?? I corresponded with him briefly years ago when he was discussing damascus guns and the Top Of Texas Chicken Chase. He had some entertaining posts!! As for Ed, I think Ed probably just sits and laughs his butt off everytime he sees how some of the things he says get some riled up!! Heck, I have even learned to just accept or ignore Pete over on the other board, so I either chuckle at some of Ed's ramblings or if need be just move on. The one thing that Ed himself has said in one of the posts in this thread (I think it was him) is that there are STILL some really good and knowledgeable folks on this board. I still like the way that Dave runs this board!!

treb I have had the same thoughts. I have read posts here and on Shotgunworld complaining about the rating system at GunBroker. And also the dispute resolution system. And of course Bernie Madoff's customers for many many years thought we was great, just about to the end.

Best,

Mike
