The left barrel of my C grade Fox developed a bulge 4.5 inches from the breech after shooting doves this weekend (using low pressure loads BTW). I believe it may have been due to a stuck wad. I need a good man to send it to. I live in middle Tennessee, but don't mind sending it wherever.

GR8Day:
If there is any hope for this barrel, Kirk Merrington will know. If not, he can also replace it. No finer craftsman in this country.

What kind of wall thickness do you have in that area, before, after, and at the bulge? With acceptable wall thickness, it would take a major problem to create a bulge where walls should be very thick. Have you saved all your empties and the rest of your shells for further investigation?

The problem with a bulge similar to what you describe is the metal has stretched and is forever weakened. It can be pressed down but it has permanently lost its elasticity and beating the bulge down will not restore the strength. Had the damage been done near the muzzle where pressures are much lower a repair might be "safe" but not in the critical first few inches of the breech. Merrington for sleeving one tube!

Thanks for the replies. I will contact Kirk. I do believe I would feel safer with a sleeving.

I don't know the wall thickness. I was shooting RST 2.5" 7.5 shot 1175 MV. I guessing about the stuck wad, but one shot I took had a stronger kick than usual, and the barrels popped open.
I missed the bird, too.

I am assuming these were not reloads. If so you need to contact RST immediately and report what happened.
They need to know if they have a quality problem.

Yeah I would contact RST ASAP as well.

In regard to Mr. Merrington not only is he very skilled at what he does but he is as honest as the day is long.

Gr8day,
Have the whole gun checked out. With that much pressure, there's the chance that other damage could have occurred.
