I do hate their "lots". They are easy to buy from. They burn through 1,000 items a day because there are many bidders. They sometimes show up at a local gun show with many great guns to drool over. I know others that have purchased from them as well. No complaints from me or others that I know of.

They are a 3 hour drive from me. But I have never attended.

Pete, you are about as far East as I am West. They must really burn fast to get through 1000 auctions per day.

I have a bid on a rifle and a friend has another. Both are individual lots and both are up very early tomorrow, so I hope to know well before noon if they post results as they go. If not, it looks like I'll know tomorrow night.

One day, I'll go to this auction and see for myself. It seems they always have an immense amount of interesting firearms.

I have never seen them at a gun show. In Des Moines, they would overwhelm the entire show collectively - but then, heck if they brought just two or three of their mid-value rifles, they could do that. Gun shows here are a complete waste of time. I proved that to myself again last weekend.

Thanks,
Brent

Yeah, I know. I'd go broke of course. And the show is at a time that always conflicts with details like classrooms of smiley undergrads or something. Tulsa is a 3/4 day drive from here, so it's not THAT far.

I'm running out of lame excuses, aren't I?

Vegas?

Yeah, like a poor prof like me could even afford the price of admission.

Besides, isn't the new "in" place to be the up coming Dallas SCI? Or is that two years ahead?

Besides, what I"m looking for is an old, drug through the mud Marlin 1893. Not the fancy custom stuff. Not for this rifle.

Well, I got schooled big time. Man does that stuff go fast! The rifle I wanted went for almost double what I bid, and most rifles seemed to hammer at slightly above or WAY above the high end of their estimated range.

Ammo, on the other hand, went for far below the low end of their estimates. Sometimes less than 1/2 of that.

I can see that I need to find another fish tank to swim in, as was in way over my head in that one.

For my personal interest, I rather go to the Vegas Antique show than any other, but I've never been to Tulsa...
Does Alligent Air fly out of Iowa? My last trip to Vegas cost about $350 for RT air and 3 night cheap room at the hotel where the show was.

Steve, the problem is that, in this case, I'm looking for an "inexpensive" noncollectable that is worthy of being relined and championed in NRA lever action silhouette. Decidedly the low end of the antique rifle category and going to Tulsa/Vegas or even Rock Island adds enough additional expense that it sort of crushes the whole objective here - which is a cheap restorable shooter.

But I may have to make one of these places one day. I could see going to RI just to ogle the steel and walnut. Something that can't be done at a normal gunshow any more w/o causing serious eye damage, (though no threat to one's wallet).

Bye the bye, if anyone has a Marlin 1893 with a 26" barrel that might be a candidate for something like this, slip me a note before I do something I will regret on Gunbroker.

Not to worry, Dave will be compensated.
