It appears someone had more money than sense; but I have probably done things just as bad. It will be interesting to see what it sells and what the reserve is Jim A. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=65889325
I learn something every day, and a lot of times it's that what I learned the day before was wrong

Wonder why they put a skeleton butt plate and did not checker the wood? Not a deal breaker but seems they just didn't finsh the customization. Out of my league for this gun.

I wonder if its safe to shoot. Do you think the barrels were made with that profile or did they file those barrels down an awful lot to get them that small just 1 inch from the breech?

That weird looking breech profile is the way crescent made the .410s. Perfectly safe and sound, unless they really took a lot of metal off when rebluing. I doubt that it has thin walls from polishing the tubes though. Ive got to say that its one of the finest crescents Ive ever seen. Sure wonder what that reserve is and who did the upgrade. The uncheckered butt makes me wonder too. Maybe the owner thought the wood looked better?

A poster just made a derogatory comment indicating that he thought the decoration seemed "amateurish". He thought better of it and deleted his post. My reply was refused because the post I was "replying to" was deleted while I was typing. Weird set of circumstances. However, I think the gun shows good layout and the quality of decoration is in keeping with the character of the gun. The builder shows good knowledge of proportion, layout, and has a heck of a good sense of humor. I think the galled trigger plate screw may have been part of the original plan. Juglans Regia, no less! This gun will be gone, quickly, if the reserve is not out of line.

I have been wrong in the past and may be now, but I think the gun is real and not an upgrade. Russ owned such a Crescent that he would NOT think of selling. I can easily surmise that these guns were made as presentation pieces. This is only the second high grade Crescent that I know of but Russ thought that about 20 or so were built over the years. It may seem strange to some, but there is a decent number of collectors of "hardware store" guns, and Crescents in particular. It would not surprise me to find out that the reserve is $4/5K. Weren't those little whiskers all around the edges of the scroll a signature style of one of the known engravers?
