Treb, this is Kansas...We generally get 20-150 birds out of a cover, most of them at a quarter mile. But there are enough "stickers" to fill limits....My high point, hunting wise, was when my Brit "Flash" went on point with a rooster in his mouth....And no camera....

The camera is never there when it's needed most. I have missed more perfect shots with a camera then I ever missed with a shotgun and we all know how many can be missed with the gun!
Thank God we have our memories to help with missed camera shots, I love watching my dog hunt more than my self!
(Buddy) The wonder dog is my best hunting partner bar none!
Black lab, 8 years young and will be hunting sunday .I could leave my gun home and have a great time watching him work and never miss a shot in his eyes!
Wish we'd been in Kansas!

Here's some pics of the overland trek it took to get from CA to KS. Lots of cold weather along the way. Another CA friend had a hunt planned just 60-70 miles east of Last Dollar's at this same time and cancelled it due to the weather.

Even the eastern side of AZ had snow in the desert. This is around Holbrook, AZ on I-40.

The dogs were sharing the heat.

Coming into Albuquerque the first night we hit pretty heavy snow up west on the high ridge that slowed the traffic to a crawl and it was even snowing in town.

Day 2 in the Santa Fe - Las Vegas, NM area.

Finally...the promised land!

The greeting committee: my brother-in-law Kyle with Joe Wood and Amarillo Mike in front of Last Dollar's place. Joe is in the frozen Filson leggins. I'm surprised those leggins flexed enough that Joe broke his leg. I think there's a warranty claim in there somewhere with Filson.

I took pics of the guns, but only after Daryl and his friends had left as well as Joe Wood. And they left with some great guns I wasn't able to capture on camera.

I didn't do these guns justice but I got images with my jury rigged hand held flashes to give you guys a taste of what was there.

I'll have to do this in several posts since there's 36 pics.

The ol' billy baroo, my little hardware store gun. I think Researcher said they were about $15 new. This is a 1926 Nitro Special Lefever .410 . Someone musta thought it was the holy grail and had it restocked and engraved. I shot it the first day, taking 3 birds with it.

My NID .410 28" ejector. It's become my favorite quail gun.

Ooops, how did that M42 get in there?

My .410 Beschi NID copy.

My 20g NID Grade 3 factory SST ejector. Redone by Gunter since it had a broken non-original stock and was cosmetically a wreck.

my 28" 28g Parker Repro

This little Flues of Mike's really appealed to me. Grade 4? There's something about the mid grade Ithacas, especially this era, that really looks good to me. That checkering is still somethin else.
