M4 made a find on Gunbroker and sent me the link: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=269452311 . I think M4 and I are on the same page and the Heinrich Scherping retailed sporting arm was ordered in the early 1890s and was onhand either in his shop or in the shop of the maker between January & April of 1893. It was either a 2 barrel set or a cape gun with pattern welded scattergun tubes. Then in 1918(difficult to see the marks) Heinrich Scherping ordered a new set of fluid steel scattergun tubes and the tubeset passed thru the Zella-Mehlis proof facilty and then experienced British reproof at some point. Restocking was much later per the ad/description. Anyone have any insight to additional small screws atop the frame just above the overhanging scear screw? Lovely adorned fences Almost all Scherpings have the Charles Harvey's 'Rigby' forend fastener British patent no. 1793 of 1866 Doesn't appear to have the A&D permission use number. Can't comment on the chopperlump tubeset description just yet. Kind Regards, Raimey rse

After chatting with M4 & Baumgarten, I now wonder that with all the other changes if there were cocking indicators akin to the ones on the Charles Daly below, which were removed and the holes were filled with the small screws. Kind Regards, Raimey rse

Hi All, Raimey kindly posted a couple pic's of my latest H Scherping aquisition in hopes that someone might have some insight to the provenance of this old D/R. We have been able to comfirm several guns from The Crown Princes gunroom, Schloss Cumberland, Gmunden Schloss Marienburg. Made for Ernst August, Crown Prince of Hannover, Circa 1878. The gold inlays on this gun seem to also ressemble the symbols(crown & rampant lion) from the Hannover coat of arms. Hoping that someone here may be able to help us learn more about Heinrich Scherping and the history on his fine firearms.

Sporting Weapons Expert and Master Hunter Heinrich Scherping being 77 years of age in June of 1907. He hung out his shingle on June 1st, 1857 and had a celebration 50 years later on June 1st, 1907 being labeled/regarded as one of the top German experts on sporting weapons as well as hunting. Well wishers from the whole of Germany on this occasion hoped that with advent and advances in technology that he would experience many more years in the business. Kind Regards, Raimey rse

Raimey, OUTSTANDING!!! That is the first picture that I have seen of Heinrich Scherping even though I have studied the man, his guns & his business for over 20 years! This picture would have been 6 years prior to his death at 83 years old in 1913. Where did that come from? You have outdone yourself again, the dates fit what we have already been able to put together. With a statement such as the one supplied with the photo, where can we find more information on the Man & his business. Hope the knowledgebase here will add any info they can so as we can better understand the trade at that period from studying one of its top Craftsman & Businessman. This helps establish the business that bore his name for 80 years, now if we can find more information explaining his association with L Eckebrecht in the years prior to his entitlement, we know the boys Johann & Heinrich Eckebrecht continued the business to as late as 1937 following his death.
Best Regards m-4

At the 1881 Forestry Exhibition in Hannover from July 16th to July 24th, Heinrich Schepring displayed his wares in the Hunting Weapons and related manufacturing along with the likes of Hofbüchsenmacher G.L.(Georg Ludwig) Rasch of Braunschweig, a Büchsenmacher Bruns also of Braunschweig, B. Ebbecke of Herzberg, whose shop I would guess H. Scherping passed thru early on, and some Kief fella of Peine. For his wears H. Scherping took home the gold medal at this event. Doug Mann kindly provided me with the following images of a H. Scherping hammergun that is temporarily in his possession. I would say that it dates to about the time of the 1881 Hannover Forestry Exhibition. Sir Joseph Whitworth Fluid Compressed Steel Nitro Reproof at the Zella-Mehlis facility in November 1911. Alteration may have centered around choke? Birmingham sourced tubes or tubeset with a mechanic with initials that look to be WB. I wonder it they were sourced from Westley Richards? Kind Regards, Raimey rse

Hello, I am new to this forum but I sure could use some help. I recently acquired a 1908 SxS in good condition and I am not a collector. I am hoping if I give a description somebody might be able to give me a guide line on it's value. The imprint on the left barrel is Kgl. Hofruchsenmacher The imprint on the right barrel is H. Scherping. Hannover Then there is a small circle with 3 names around it: Krupp Prima and Stahl It is a 12 gauge with 29 1/2" barrels The serial number is 637 and the barrels, receiver, and forearm all match. On the bottom of the barrels it says NITRO There were several letters and markings on the receiver when taken apart. W U 13/1 12 in a circle I have some pictures downloaded but I need a new photographer. Any input or help would be appreciated, I spent hours on the internet searching until I came across this forum and then signed up. Thank you,
