It's a Nitro Special with a Ithaca Sunburst pad. I'm surprized to see it with the English style stock.

I believe it to be a Western Arms with a factory replaced butt stock. Western Arms were made between 1929 and 1942. Frame colors look original to me..

Walter, I didn't think that Western Field guns were checkered. Do you suppose that may have been an add-on.

Does it say "Westernfield" or "Western Arms Long Range"? The Western Arms Long Range Double made by Western Arms Corp. a wholly owned subsidiary of Ithaca Gun Co. It was essentially a cheaper version of their Lefever Nitro Special, but made with a malleable iron frame rather than forged steel, and had a plain stock and forearm.

Westernfield was a similar gun made for Montgomery Ward which had some flat-topped rudimentery checkering and some even had ejectors and other options.

Either way, the stock and forearm do not appear original.

It's a "Long Range".I see optional recoil pad.Now I'm wondering maybe the stock is original?Would the wood be serial numbered?

To my eye that pad appears to be the color of the repro Ithaca "bridge trestle" pad made by/for Ithaca when they were at King Ferry, New York.

The Ithaca "bridge trestle" recoil pad that first appeared in the 1931-2 time frame --

had "PAT.APPL'D FOR" across the bottom of the logo on the face --

up through at least 1941.

In 1950, Ithaca introduced their "bridge trestle" pad with the aluminum base.

The Ithaca recoil pads with the black base made at King Ferry New York, have "PATENTED" across the bottom of the logo.
