Humor aside, before you throw all sorts of stuff into the room ask yourself what you actually value and enjoy.

Take some time to look at other rooms people have put together and see how they did it.

Most importantly don't see the room as a completed project but a work in progress to be added to. In a word plan space for future additions.

Nothing is worse than a book case 100% filled, a wall 100% covered, or a gun safe with every space filled. I believe that at worse there should always be a spot for an addition or growth, so plan for it.

Try looking at Orvis, Stafford's, and Kevin's online for ideas (not necessarily buying from them, but getting inspired by them)

Also look at Safari Club International for ideas, especially their magazines, both articles and advertisers.

I like the old colonel's ideas. Nothing turns me off more than a room with everything in its place. A room should put people at ease. My own notion is to keep animal heads off the wall or none at all. Not because they're not deserving of a place but they are not who I am. I don't think of myself as a person who kills to put something on a wall or as being indiscriminate in displaying my guns. I make no apologies for my hunting pursuits but I'd like friends and visitors see a balance of books and paintings, guns and a decoy or two, to reflect more of my character than what I own.

Here's a photo of the games room at the Scottish Estate that is owned by the person I work for. There is a billiards table in there too. Sorry it's a bit dark:

This head is in a local butcher's shop. He bought it at auction. The lable on the mount shows it was shot by the big game hunter J.G.Millais in Newfoundland. Some head! Look good on a gun room wall. Lagopus.....

I've tramped alot of the country he write's of, some of it is still pristine as he discribe's it...some not so much

Lagopus:
That room looks like the ideal spot to sit and visit with friends in the evening while smoking a cigar and sipping on some Cognac.

Newf, is it possible to look in your copy and see if there is a picture of the actual head? It may be illustrated and identifiable by the antlers. I would be interested.

italiansxs, you ought to see the rest of the house! Lagopus.....
