Anybody have any suggestions on the best small airline gun case. I have an Americase that's small but in 2 trips to South America it has multiple holes and is beat to hell. I guess I should be happy since it's protected the gun well but durability of the case hasn't been great. I've also got a Boyt on wheels that is a tank and almost indestructible but it's big and cumbersome.
I want a single gun (take down) case for shorter trips witin the US where I don't need the Boyt. Is Americase the only real choice or what else am I missing. Would prefer a smaller case that can go in the bottom of a large duffle bag.

Check out these: www.pelicancases.com I have had a two gun model for several years and think highly of them. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes. After having traveled with both I'll never have another aluminum travel case after having had one of these. As Elmer Keith would say, "They're hell for stout!" Heavy, but very, very strong. I absolutely believe I could drive my 3/4 ton truck over it without damage to the guns inside. All my best, Stan
May God bless America and those who defend her.

GW, I'd guess the Pelican Storm iM3100 would be a best choice for a single gun take-down. I use an Americase single gun take-down model that I thought was indestructible. I'd like to know how you managed to get holes in the one you have...machinegun fire?...Geo

Go to Cabelas and get their Pelican look alike it goes for $99.99 and is often on sale for $79.99. As tough as, and with better locks then, the Pelican.

FWIW, a dealer who sells both told me that Pelican and SKB come out of the same factory and are identical except for label and color. I have not had a chance to do a SxS comparison.

Secure Case I have flown with this case about a half a dozen times and it has held up well. It is aluminum but very light. The inside foam is dense and holds the guns very securely. The main issue is that if you carry two guns in it, they can't have barrels longer than 28". However, my OU with 30" barrels and extended chokes fits in it by itself. Not sure what your price point is, but if you want a light aluminum case, this is a good one.
Such a long, long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.

I have had my Pelican to Argentina 6 times and it is the best I have seen for air travel. It has also made trips via air to hunt quail and is going strong.

Pelican all the way.
My Pelicans have been to Argentina multiple times without a hitch. The beauty of them is they are water proof, tough as all get out, and you can get replacement foam when you change guns or equipment for the next trip.
Rather than the double breakdown shotgun case, I went with the AR-15 case. It's a little bigger and gives you plenty of room for packing other valuable goodies you'll be taking along with you.

Built like a tank but cumbersome. I use it for international trips but a smaller one would be nice for shorter trips within the country. I don't think there's a Pelican case small enough to fit in a duffle bag.

I've had a Pelican 1750 for a couple of years now, and it's been great. Flown with it a bunch and with two scoped, and you can't tell it, on either the case or the rifles. I've not had the rifles' zero shift. This model will hold two scoped bolt action rifles; for a break down shotgun, they make smaller ones. I like the clasps, and the fact that I can put four Master padlocks on it (I got a set of four, with same key, that are a perfect snug fit). The lining must be cut to the particular guns, easy to do with an electric carving knife. The downside is that it's not light, but then again, that may be a strength. http://www.amazon.com/Pelican-1750-Case-Rifle-Black/dp/B000AOMA1S
