Thanks FRED. Fellows this is a rifle I ended up with of GB.It's a single shot in a 22 CF cartridge unknown at this time. With DST's etc and to me looks like a old custom rifle from many years ago.As this is my first Krag I would appreciate any information or advice. Thanks Whitey

My friend in Anchorage has one a lot like yours.

The triggers are Pacific and they take-up slack but I don't believe that they are "Set".

The buttplate is a Pacific one on the rifle here and the caliber is .22-3000 Lovell using a 1922 barrel.

The local rifle does not have a cheek-piece and can't tell if by the same person. My friends rifle was made in Alaska by a guy named "Rau" or "Nau" a long time ago. I'll try to find out which name is correct but no promises.

Next time I see it I'll have my camera and we can compare them.

Thanks Michael. And once I get it I might have some more information also. The owner did say you have to set the front trigger before it will fire. And has no saftey. Thanks again Whitey

The pictures are not to detailed but the triggers appear to be modified Newton triggers. The cocking trigger looks to be shortened and thinned.

I like it. I think you will have a fun piece to bring back and play with.
If it is a r-2 lovell, try and run down some of the Jamison brass made last year. Very good stuff.

I just checked the Buffalo Arms site. They have both the Jamison 25-20 Single Shot and the 22-3000 brass formed from it in stock. The site says "ample supply".

I recommend the C.S. Landis books "22 Caliber Varmint Rifles" and "Woodchucks and Woodchuck Rifles" as potential sources of information on such rifles. A chamber cast & careful measuring of groove diameter & twist is recommended. Back in the day, 22 barrels came from many sources, often from rimfires.

The combination of a DST that must be set for the rifle to fire and the absence of a safety indicates that it was carried afield empty or loaded but with the bolt handle raised. Treat it gently when loaded.

I believe that rifle was for sale cheap at the Denver show in May and it had a box of 22-3000 brass with it. The triggers appeared to be home made and were very light and didn't quite work right.

Whitey,
It may not work, but the rifle does seem to have the original Krag safety. To ID the caliber,it is best to make a chamber cast, but you can get some initial info from the bolt face. The Krag rim is considerably larger than 22-3000,so the extractor and maybe boltface would have been modified. In addition to 22-3000,wildcats from 30-40Krag and 30-30 were used,as well as 22Hornet.If it has a 1922 barrel, the bullet dia.won't be the standard .224". It looks like you will have a lot of fun with this rifle.
