Don't be too much disappointed if you can't find the #1 and #2 in your list. These Baikal single shots (unlike some of Baikal's more upmarket offerings) are made to withstand decades of abuse in the hands of a market/subsistance hunter, native Siberian, and the like. Which includes being lugged about in the snowmobile or boat or simply on the back, no cleaning or repair (like as not no gunsmith or any human dwelling within 100 miles), firing hundreds of rounds a day in the heat of the season, then spending the other 50 weeks in an unheated cabin or hiding place, and still going bang every time, because every next shot could mean the difference between life and death. And they have been doing the job for over 60 years now (or a 100, depending on who's counting).

Baikal's IZ18 is the only true hammerless single out there now. [img:left] [/img] Not true: http://www.accardi-importers.com/Investarm.htmlThese guys have listed them for years. The Investarm is "rougher" than the Companions I have seen, and costs as much or more, but, you can get 'em. Best, Ted

PuddleRat, if you decide you can't live without a 20ga Beretta Companion and can't find one for a reasonable price, I have one I don't care much for. Email is in my profile...Geo

Lagopus,
BSA also made the BSA Single Xii, using a William Baker action. The same Baker who invented the ejector and the Lancaster 12/20 action. The Single 12 is nothing like the Snipe. The all steel action is a work of genius, using just one coil spring to power the tumbler, the trigger, and provide auto rebound. It probably can be customised to be a superb single. But, it is a "semi hammerless" ie hammer gun which is out of the original posting specs.
If anyone comes across a BSA Single XII, grab it.

On friday I started hitting sport shops for the gun hunt. Really wanted a 20, but hunter safety classes were in full swing and not a 20 was to be seen on the used racks. Found a tang safety vulcan, but not enough drop for my fat face.
Walked out the door with a hardly used 12ga stoger single. Fit is perfect - like grandpa's old davenport. It has a hammer - with a hammer block safety - not as good as a tang - but not that bad. Weight was a little more than I wanted, but it is ballanced well and heavy 1 1/8oz upland loads are no bother. High brass 1 1/4oz leave you with a little cheek tingle - but not bad. Plus it has choke tubes so I think I have a walking turkey gun. Picked up the gun, a gun case, an extra i.c. tube all for $80.
Now all I need for the fall is a beeper/training colar combo and a couple boxes of spreaders!!
