Roger, both guns are marked Schwartz Freres, Mersch, Luxembourg. They are very similar, but the second lacks checkering between the carved fields on the stocks. Proofmarks are sparce and only Krupp with the Sauer caveman mark, serial no. and original bore/choke measurements show on the first gun. Maybe Luxembourg did not require proofs as did Belgium and Germany at the time. Here are better pics of the crest on the second gun. Some evidence suggests that the purchaser was Dr. J. A. Vosburgh. More evidence suggests the first gun was made for his son, Dr. Charles Augustus Vosburgh , which seems to match the first crest. If we could fit the Dr. J. A. Vosburgh initials to this crest [second gun] we probably have a match.
