If you're interested in pursueing it, have the chambers measured on both ends. Chances are the chambers may be less than nominal diameter. It's a simple fix to ream the chambers to nominal if that is the issue. I've had several guns with tight chambers.

Chuck,

I would really like to be able to shoot any brand shells and have them eject properly but I don't have the tools or knowledge to determine if that's the problem.

Thanks again

It's simply the RST shells. If you look them over--you will see little bulges on the outside of the hull from the wad pushing on the casing. The plastic in those hulls is very thing and I find them a little sticky in various guns. Because none of my hulls ever hit the ground--even when hunting--It's a non-issue for me. You will find STS (Rem) eject slickly also like the AA's. The grooved hulls on RST's and some other brands seem to eject with less velocity--esp. if the chambers need a good scrubbing.

Hello Bill,

I found four STS's and shot them while out checking cattle earlier and they ejected with no problem.I always catch my hulls also but this morning I was shooting the 21 20 ga for the first time to make sure everything worked as it should when I noticed the problem.

Now I can just enjoy it even with the RST's...

Winchester 21's do not need low pressure shotshells.....my lifelong shooting buddy competes in the pigeon ring with 21's and fires thousands of 3 3/4x1 1/4 pigeon loads through his guns without any problems. It takes a helluva lot of shooting to wear the locking bolt and or hinge pin to the point of replacement. Open and close the gun like you would any fine double and you might replace these two parts once in your lifetime. Shoot any load your 21 is chambered for. This is not a gun you have to baby due to its age.

It might be the ejector spring has weakened. see this blueprint for spring spec. have a competent gunsmith check the spring against the standard.
