Took my Win 21 20 Ga out for the first time this morning and noticed that the right barrel ejects the hull pretty good but the left barrel only kicks it out maybe 5-6".It did throw the hull past me a couple times but the rest of the time it was very weak.

I also noticed that when I eject both hulls at the same time the right barrel doesn't eject the hull near as far as when it is ejected by itself.

Any ideas what the problem may be and the best place to get it fixed?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Try different brands of shells. My Model 21, 16 ga. seems to be finiky when ejecting some brands, but not others. Also, Model 21 ejectors do need lubrication.

Check for clean and lube.

Everything is clean and lubricated - - With the barrels off I can tilt the barrels and the ejectors move freely in and out.

I'm shooting RST shells and they eject perfect out of my other 20's.

Could it be the ejector springs are weak?

Thanks

I have a small handfull of 21's and find that shells, both unfired and spent,
don't like to be too far away from these fine guns wink

Yes, it could, but I'd try some other brands of shells before making a repair. Also, check for a clean chamber and check the fired hulls for any sign of undue expansion.

I had prepared a nice long post about possibly the left ejector dragging on the single and also slowing down the right on a pair.
I guess that's not the case!

Ejector spring(s) could be non matching replacement.
Is the small roller in the ejector forend assembly in place and free?
It's cross pinned between the two ejector hammers. At the very rear of them and down between them in the forend iron. You can see it barely if you look down at the rear taper of the hammers.
That roller secures the hammers in place and allows them to run smoothly back and forth. Missing or makeshift part there will cause slowdown or stop in the action.

Can't think of anything else off hand other than the left ejector kicking too soon and the shell nipping the top of the frame on the way out slowing it down. Ejecting the pair might have some effect on the right side if it's springing back in that moment.
All just a guess of course..

Daryl,

I took your advice and shot some Win AA's and both barrels ejected perfect.I then shot more of the RST's and they ejected poorly again.

I measured the fired hulls when I got back home and the AA's were .007 smaller than the RST's.The AA hulls would go in very easy but the RST's had to be slightly forced into the barrels.

I guess I will use the AA's in my 21 and the RST's in my other vintage doubles.

Thanks for the replys.

Glad you found a cheap way of making the "repair". I , long ago, found the same problem and fix with my Model 21 , 16 ga., but I cannot remember which shells did not work well and which did. You found a good solution.
