You should have bought them. They sell like hotcakes on ebay when they come up, which they rarely do.

Ryan I am sure he will have some more later. And will get a couple sets then. This time it was a case of all or none. And I hate to mess with E-bay as a seller. All you do is answer E-mails. Whitey

Guys,
It is hard to fitup used clawmounts. For a nice rifle, it is better to use new mounts(although expensive). The trouble is,you generally have to buy indivdual parts and mount to fit.For common bolt actions and some new drillings, sets of claw mounts and/or swing mounts may be avaliable. Check the sites for EAW (Ernst Apel Wuerzburg) or ERA ( Erik Recknagel) and go to the cataloges.

whitey,
I understand, and you may even be right. Can you tell from the bases how deep to cut the dovetail? Can you tell before you buy the mounts if the dovetail will pierce the reciever ring?Is there a "sattle"(sp)that solderes to the reciever ring to avoid piercing it?Is the maker of the mounts known,to buy a new "foot" for the rear ring,to allow fitting for elevation( to allow avoiding piercing the reciever ring).

Mike I understand.but a lot of us have ended up with claw mount rifles with missing rings etc. and not interested in spending more for the bases and rings than the rifle is worth. Even if it cost a little time fitting etc.JMO.
You know it seems as everytime I try to help someone on this site.Someone is always critical about something. So maybe I should just stop and enjoy the diffrent post etc. Whitey

Fear not, Whitey. You attempted to provide a source of relatively rare parts to us, and that is to be commended. I actually hand filed a set of claw mounts out of two blocks of steel to fit an orphaned Mauser once, and then case hardened them. They worked fine, but I swore and declared I would never pull that stunt again!

Whitey,
Don't stop trying to help, thats all I was trying to do.Looking for a complete set didn't seem like someone with clawmount rifle looking for bases, rather it seemed like someone looking to build a clawmount rifle. It would be a shame to buy a set and not be able to make them work.
Gary D.
It seems like your experience pointed out my concerns.Think about trying to fitup an old set where the "claws" are spaced further apart or not far enough, or too narrow for the bases.

EAW has a system to fit swing mounts to existing bases. With this system, you have a lot more flexibility in useable scopes and it can be done so the rifle can be returned to original condition. If you call their site up and look at this system, you might be able to figure out how to do it with Redfield or similar rings.

Hi Gary That's what was nice about this bunch bases rings and everthing was there and if I had bought them cost would have been only 50.00 per set(a front and rear). so I figured a guy could fool with them a little if necessary. But I just didn't feel like having 16 sets. So my friend will just find me a couple sets. Whitey
