Gents! I picked this up today for cheap because of the obvious bolt through the wrist. I'll give it some more TLC this winter. From the proof marks, having the letters N, U, and W all with a crown above, I assume it is after 1950. Also, I did a search and I'm a bit confused. I have read where Gustav Genschow and Geco are one in the same and that they were just an exporter, not making their own guns. I have also read that Geco is not the same company at all. I am wondering which is true. This gun says Geco nowhere on it, just Gustav Genschow.

Looks like October 1951 with Simson tubes. I've seen the 3 lobed stamp on the tubes before. What is the steel type or stamped name.

Kind Regards,

On the top of the barrels all it says is Spezial Gewehrlaufstahl.
I find that the gun sure comes to my shoulder nicely. Too bad it has the bolt through it.

References give that Gustav Genschow was founded in 1887 and some sources give that a subsidiary named GECO was formed in 1912? The two paralleled till maybe WWII. By 1959 Dynamit Nobel had absorbed both.

3 Rings, 4 Rings or no rings? Any similar stamps on the underside?

No rings on top and the underside just has that 3 lobed stamp that you see.

gunsaholic,
Based on the one side I can see,I wouldn't be too disturbed by the throughbolt. These are often used in new guns as a preventive measure. It may be original.

Yeah, I wondered about that.I was told before that some makes had a cross bolt or pin through them. Wasn't sure about this one. I'll remove the stock later and have a look at the internals. The action is tight, the bores are good and the lever is right of center so she should make a good ole shooter.
