I purchased a set of Brownells thin screwdriver bits for European guns. They work very well on those types of screws. Just have to be careful as they are thin blades

And......before you touch it with a screwdriver be sure to clean out the slots thoroughly. I use a thin piece of brass sheet to dig out deposits of dirt and grime. I think slots filled up over the decades is one of the leading causes of buggered screws.

All quality guns have the screws clocked. Not only do they look much better, they also tell at a glance if a screw has worked loose of if something has shifted when reassembling a disassembled gun. More work for the craftsman, but then they did get good at it.

Joe Wood has finally dispensed some wisdom here.
