I use a thin piece of brass sheet to dig out deposits of dirt and grime. I think slots filled up over the decades is one of the leading causes of buggered screws. Not only do they look much better, they also tell at a glance if a screw has worked loose of if something has shifted when reassembling a disassembled gun.
