Any ideas on who made this thing? It sure is a nice: Is this a Dangerfield/Nichols/Lefever drilling? It looks like an awesome gun, in great, original shape. OWD

I once owned a Niclols 10 bore hammergun. A very nice hammergun indeed. This one is even nicer.

When Nichols and Lefever dissolved their venture I understand that Nichols took actions in partial payment of monies due him. From what I gather it was a fairly amicable parting.
Lefever was never shy about putting his name on his work and that is a gun any maker would be proud to claim. Perhaps it was started before the division and finished by one or the other. Perhaps Lefever had stopped making thumb openers and did not want to sign it and let it be known that he was still making such a gun after his automatic cocking double came out. That gun might have been finished ten years later than the time frame we are assuming.
I would like to know if it is restored or re-freshened. It looks factory new to me in most pictures. Can a gun last a hundred and twenty plus years in that condition? I would have shot it enough to show a little wear. But perhaps is has always been a closet queen owned my multiple men with more will power than I have to keep it a virgin gun.

I believe the sucker is totally original. Wow! What an example of the gunmakers art.

Joe, if you owned that gun could you resist shooting it? I know that I could not. It is as nice an example of a gun that was perfect in its day and still needs to be shot.

Lefever made Thumb Push openers through the Side-Cockers & on into the Automatic Hammerless guns. If there was anything there he didn't want his name on it would I believe have been that it was a hammer gun. Seems as if he "Officially" quit building hammer guns & concentrated on Hammerless after he & John Nichols parted ways. Whom-ever made it, it is one gorgeous gun. I woud certainly like to have one like it & Yes I would have to shoot it a bit.

That's a gorgeous piece, and whoever refinished it did an outstanding job. I think it's been refinished because the finish on a 135 year old gun will shrink into the pores of the wood. This one is too smooth, even if it was unfired.

Some one bought this gun. Hope they pull the side plates to see if any clues are there.
