What sort of smokeless will you use with that kind of case capacity? Sounds like that round is a thumper on both ends.

Hello eeb,
I've been using IMR 4198 with 550g & 650g bullets. I use a 1-1/4" piece of backer rod (foam) to fill the rest of the case.
And, yes ... it thumps!!

Congratulations! A back action hammer rifle, and made by Dicksons, one of my favorite actions by a favorite maker, and with such history is a treasure.
An interesting coincidence about the lion with no mane. Paterson wrote in his book of man eating lions with no mane. And a documentary, a National Geo if I recall, showed man eating lions with no mane. Makes you wonder if there is an underlying cause there.

Whew! What a wonderful rifle in itself. Adding all the adventures it's acquired through the years, in famous hands, and its cachet becomes nearly overwhelming.
You must honor that weapon in as many ways as you can. What a treat to be able to actually read stories of its exploits through the years. GREAT STUFF!
I will congratulate you on the prize your search brought you to, but I would be lying if I didn't admit there's a healthy dash of envy in all the laud I lay at its pedigree.
I will raise a glass of calvados to you and your .577 tonight. Well done, Buckstix!

Not all big caliber, top tier maker, double rifles are $50,000 and up. Congratulations. The ad is still up on Lewis Drake's website and it worth a look.
