I purchased some Westley Richards 2 1/2" "Classic Game Loads". 12 gauge, 1 oz. I cannot find any information on what pressure this load produces. Can anyone help?

Steve: When I was trying to put together pressure data for factory 16g loads, I contacted Westley Richards twice through the website and they never responded http://www.westleyrichards.com/gun/ammo_shot.phpThe US distributor is in Montana and it might be worth a phone call 406-586-1946. Please let us know what you find out- and please ask them about the 16g load while you're at it

"Our traditional English cartridges are specially loaded for Westley Richards by Lyalvale Express. Game cartridges are available in two and a half inch chamberings, in all popular gauges. These cartridges have been tested comprehensively to CIP specifications, and their performance has been proven on the challenging game shoots unique to the UK."

I've shot them in one of my 1910-15 English steel barreled guns, and they seem to have a lot of pop to 'em. Don't think they would be fit for damascus, altho' I don't know that for sure.

"tested comprehensively to CIP specifications" is only the generic "approved for 3 ton service or 850 bar proof." Not any more helpful than Dram Equivalent. And whatever pressure data they provide, it's likely CIP which will need some kind of 'Uh-mer-kun' SAAMI conversion.

I contacted W/R last fall trying to get pressure spec's on their ammo. Was told to contact Lyalvale and ask them.
I though this rather odd that a high-end outfit like W/R wouldn't know anything about what they are selling.
I ended up buying from RST and have been very pleased with them. Contact RST they will send you any pressure spec's you ask for.

The owner of W/R USA visits this site so this is mostly a bump to keep it near the top.
Jim and his son Kevin have been very helpful to me and I hope any problems with W/R was just coincidental.

Partly to keep this near the top also...but if the maker is not forthcoming with pressure data, $25 and s&h will get you 5 shells tested (Tom's min rec) from Mr. Armbrust and countless sleepful nights.

The Westley Richards ammuntion is a bit on the hot side with a muzzle velocity of around 1350 fps, as someone said it has a bit of a "pop" to it. What the pressure is I'm not sure. I only shoot 7/8 ounce loads, especially with that kind of velocity.
I bought an 1895 Westley Richards SxS from the Kildays about a year ago, and I use their ammunition in the gun. However, the barrels on the gun are sleeved.
If you want to be sure of using low pressure 2 1/2" loads, you can get Polywad Vintagers, or RST.
