My latest information from I think a really good source is: the spacing between the sears is the same for all gauges but the length is different for the 12s as compared with the 16s and 20s. No point of anyone getting worked up over this but this might be a solution where both factions can say they were right.

For any interested readers on this board.

I took the time today to remove the trigger plates, stocks and the sear axles and the sear springs from a 12 Gauge Philadelphia Sterlingworth circa 1928 and a 16 Gauge Philadelphia Sterlingworth circa 1925 and lastly a 20 Gauge Philadelphia Sterlingworth circa 1926.

I took the following measurements from these three O.E. Factory Sear springs:

Best Regards,

Doug

PS Thanks to someone who just voted to get me back to 3 stars.

EDIT 9:30am eastern: back again to 2 stars. Must be nice to have time to play games.

If it wasn't directed at Mr. PA24 then why did you even include it in your post? How about a game of "Go Fish"? Got any threes? crazy

Silvers--Now that he took three of his guns apart to show you where and how to measure, you can have my remaining two stars if it makes you feel better. Go Fish.

This report is on 1925 to 1928 guns. Ansley Fox small bores were made starting 1912. Take apart some early ones all original for sure and let us know what you find out.

Well to be sure you need to take them all apart and check them. I just take your word for it. The differences are very minor if at all.

Thank you PA24. The .002 difference between the 12 ga. spring and
the 20 ga. vice the .005 between the 16 ga and the 20ga. would suggest that all springs for the Philly guns were made from the same drawing.

I think that .005" difference in the length of the springs would fall within the realm of interchangeable parts.

I'd bet old Eli Whitney his-self would approve.
