Another interesting gun often found at Simpson's is a Husqvarna boxlock. Mainly found in field grade, an A&D action with crossbolt. I checked several out last time I was down there and I was suprised how similar they were to Sauers..

I prefer wood to plastic, leather to nylon, waxed cotton to Gore-Tex, and split bamboo to graphite.

One small correction here, the BRNO SxS, extractor model, available in both 16 and 12 gauge, is called the Model ZP-47, regardless of gauge. The ejector guns, also available in both 16 and 12 gauge, are the Model ZP-49. I have in my files an original BRNO magazine ad from the 1960's, showing both model designations. A true sidelock with all coil springs. They are so tough that I have built two double rifles on them, one in calibre .450 #2 NE, the other in calibre 9.3x74R. Both are still going strong after 1000's of rounds through them.

Ron, any of those guns available now? I remember a photo of Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev carrying one during a Czech or Hungarian boar hunt in the 60s.

King,
They are as common as dirt here in Ontario. I can't remember the last time that I did NOT see at least a couple for sale at the local gun shows. Also, last time I checked, Tony at Tradex had at least a dozen on his site.

Thanks Ron and guns for Canadian connection. I have always used the gun I wanted to carry come hell or high water but last season covered in salt spray and no place to rest gun in jumbles of rocks without scratching. I don't mind honest scratches but this seemed abuse. Maybe Brno is the gun for those places.

+1 for the BRNO. Nice lines, solid shooter, sturdy and locks up like a safe. I had a 12 and a 16. Sold the 12 and kept the 16. I would'd call it light or heavy but something I can carry all day and still bring up quick for a flushing grouse. Also I like it because it is a well made sidelock well under what you would pay for other comparable well made sidelocks.
