It is still a curious thing to me. I've never had it happen, and I shoot double triggered guns a great deal, with all sorts of grip diameters, shapes, etc. Even with heavy duck or pigeon loads it's not an issue. I dunno.

Only gun it happened to my with was a Merkel O/U, for some reason... The cure, for me, was to grip the gun with my middle finger right up against the back of the guard. Any space and sore finger.

This was never an issue with my my other shotguns. Nor is it an issue when I'm shooting clays. I think my hands and the gun gets a little slicker in the cold. I have small hands and if I compare my fitted shotguns to the Francotte it is considerably longer - 1".
Thought I would start by ordering one of the trigger guard pads and wrap the wrist with the sport wrap tape they sell for tennis rackets to get a better grip. Thanks for the advice.

Hmmmm, well, if you have small hands, where did the 'husky' come from? Is this gun a straight grip or pistol grip? Obviously, something is causing your 3rd finger to be too close to the trigger guard. Maybe if the stock is too long you are crowding the gun trying to move forward to hang on (while wearing heavy clothing to duck hunt even makes lop longer)??

I had an old Rossi two trigger SxS that I was death on ducks with, but that thing beat my middle finger to death. Admittedly I was shooting 3" heavy loads. And that trigger guard was quite sharp. I taped a pad to my finger with a band aid, and put a piece of leather on the back of the trigger guard, and that made it liveable. Only gun I ever had that did that.

Sometimes it's a combination of stock/trigger guard geometry and hand geometry. Some people have trouble with just about any DT gun; others, like Dennis, very rarely or not at all. I've never had an issue, and I've owned and shot hundreds of DT guns. My hands are small, but my fingers are fairly long. Maybe that combination helps. Lefties may have more of a problem than righties, because some triggers are positioned with a slight right hand bias, making a longer reach for lefties. But they can be bent some. Dennis or other gunsmiths can comment on that possibility.

By the way the Husky moniker is from my initial interest in Husqvarna shotguns due to family heritage etc.

Oh, ok, that makes sense now. However, I wonder if your trigger guard is right for you. Possibly it is set at an obtuse angle? Good luck.

Since this doesn't happen when shooting clays which is a higher volume shooting than in the field I would investigate further what the differences in your gear - range versus field. Perhaps you wear a shooting glove which gives you a better grip at the range? Or if you are shooting premounted gun at the range versus mount and shoot in the field you are changing your grip. Your field clothes are going to be thicker usually than range clothes which was mentioned earlier. The solution would seem to be in the differences.

My middle finger suffers badly with a CZ Hammer Classic because there is not enough room between the pistol grip and the back of the trigger guard. I have never had a problem with a POW grip shotgun or a pistol grip double rifle. I plan to reshape it to a POW to add more clearance.
